This was a fun hike. I had planned to hike both San Gabriel Peak and nearby Strawberry Peak on this day, but found the trail to Strawberry Peak from Red Box Station was closed. My back-up trail, Josephine Fire Road, was also closed. While things didn’t go quite according to plan, I found the hike to San Gabriel Peak satisfied me for the day. I also learned a valuable lesson when it comes to hiking in the San Gabriels – check to see which trails are closed and check to see which roads are closed, as this area, more than any other I hike, has problems with closures.
Fun hike in Santa Barbara. Pretty easy to follow although there were a couple of unsigned junctions that needed to be figured out. Approximately 10 miles on the day. Jesusita – pronounced Hay-sue-seetuh.
A short hike in the Thousand Oaks/ Newbury Park area. I had hiked part of this trail on my Tarantula Hill hike but didn’t finish it. The two maps I had were not accurate but I soon figured out where I went wrong. On this day I completed the trail.
I hiked this area in early January but bailed out after only about a mile in. I returned to complete what I started and had a surprisingly fun time. Glad to know there’s still some good places to hike in Simi Valley that are new to me. The 70% chance of rain forecast was helpful as I only saw two people all day (it only sprinkled for a few minutes at the end of my hike).
